Post Doubt about all of the HIB2 no DRM deal and future updates
Mainly I wanna know if HIB2 buyers will have access to future updates to the game, I ask this because I bought it, but then realized I got no key or anything for CC since it was DRM free, considering that in future updates all the licensing will be back does that mean I won't have access to them?

Don't worry, Data is just figuring out how to get the HIB buyers into the licensing system. You'll probably be emailed a key or something like that.

EDIT: Ninja-Duh.

Sorry about this, seconds after posting I saw the other thread about this very issue, but then it was already too late.

Also, wow, this sounds like it will be a real nuisance to the devs, since they'll have to put out 2 separate builds from now on it seems, I think that the easiest solution would be to give keys for HIB buyers, I wouldn't mind that.

One potential problem: I'll have two keys on one email address if he goes that route.
Is the system even set up not to... explode, or something, if that happens? :P

Getting it onto Steam would be the best thing, especially now that the Steam HIB2 subscription keys are available.

I don't think it would be fair for buyers of the HIB2 to get a key.. Mainly because us previous buyers bought the game for 20-30-40 dollars, and the HIB2 people bought it for as little as a dollar (or even 20 cents or so, seeing as they got several other games for that one dollar).

I'm sure Data will sort something out though

*shrug*
That's the least headache inducing way to do it, so that's probably how it will be done.

Well, since HIB people will get the updates anyway what's the difference?.

Giving the keys would be the most hassle free way to handle this as far as the devs are concerned, I think it won't happen though because of the whole "DRM Free" thing the HIB has going.

I did paid lot more then a dollar btw :p, the HIB guys should have like a 10 bucks minimum of something.

As a key buyer I understand your point of view, in the way that it wouldn't really be fair to have someone who payed at a discounted price with exactly the same perks, but I also bought the HIB, so I can see how it'd affect that side.

In my opinion he might as well send the keys, but he may as well send an email to everyone who ever purchased a link with a drm free update.

I don't understand that sentiment, if a market haves a potato sale would you say that the people who buy those potatoes shouldn't get tasty ones just because you bought a day before at full price?

Or just look at steam, I lost count of how many times I paid like 20 bucks for a game just so it would be on a crazy sales weekend or something for 5 bucks or even less, yet no matter if you bought on a sale or not, there will be no difference on the service provided by steam.

but anyway it seems that Data will streamline this in the future, looks like they'll change the whole licensing system so it will be just one thing, both for old customers and HIB buyers, well at least that's what I get from this post.

I paid 18 PLN, which is 3 minimal hourly wages. Too bad that it wasn't possible to decide which developer receives what percentage of money, as I don't like the idea of buying a tower defense game and some weird physics game and wasn't really interested in Braid and Machinarium.

I bought CC two years ago and I also bought the bundle (and I paid a lot more that a dollar for it).

Of course the bundle users should get the updates. It's not the first time in the history of gaming where some people bought a game for cheaper than earlier buyers.

What I do find slightly disturbing is the talk about future updates for bundle buyers requiring a key, or in other words, DRM.

The game was marketed on the bundle site as DRM-free with guaranteed future updates, after all. You might argue that the site made no promises about future updates being DRM-free, but it still doesn't sound completely right.

Am I alone in thinking along these lines?

What could happen is Data could put the HIB buyers updates on the HIB page (thus keeping it exclusive to you), or send you a link to the new build via your bundle email.
Data hasn't said anything yet though, so all this is speculation.

There more than a few ways for him to solve the "problem", but as duh said all we say is speculation.
