So recently I came across this interesting theory while surfing the nets: supposedly, even the most shallow and/or plotless of games could be rendered immersive and interesting with a bit of effort from the player. Basically, you have to act as if you were actually living the situations depicted, adjust your mindset to that of the characters, imagine yourself as a part of the game world. In other worlds a bit of make-believe.

Initially, I was a bit very skeptical about it. Frankly, it's hard to believe that such foolish and slightly embarassing actions would do anything to improve gameplay. But then, after some testing...

It works perfectly on CC.

Now I just need some crabs.

Dressing up makes you feel like the character you're playing. In a manly way.

QUESTION: Since in CC you are actually playing as a brain in a jar controlling a number of subhuman avatars, aren't you actually perfectly connected to the experience through the simple expedient of playing the game itself?

Only if you put a jar over your face.

yeah in fact wearing a clone costume is counterproductive.

Games are so much more immersive when you feel like the character. I go to great lengths to achieve that.
Case in point, I'm presently limbless and floating in a jar.

Haven't gotten around that pesky "my organs are still organic and in my torso" problem yet, TLB?

This is a good point though, and I think that most games that are immersive at large manage to get the players to put in some associative effort by default (Which is why good multi-player games are popular/lucrative). I find talking about games with people who've played them every now and again makes them more fun too; me and a few friends who play CC have had some animated conversations about it (usually involving the "hwek, hwerk, whelk, hrugh" of a corpse looping around the map or the "crughralrchr-chrhchrs-quicrh" of a crab bomb under high lag (usually abbreviated to "CRABS!" or similar) or oh god. CC is good for those kind of stories.

But yeah, I digress, getting into a game and having fun is at the player's discretion. Nice costume.

Isn't the point of the control interface so that you don't feel like a brain in the jar?
But there is effectively no information as to the nature of the control interface in universe, so ehhh.

At one point there's a picture of a dude playing CC on his neuro-puter, though it could be just a drawing.

Edit: hey mail!
