Soldiers in CC, they're meat bags right? They never joke, never cry, never get scared. And i'm sure about this for coalition and the dummies.

What about the Ronin? Criminals or criminal-converted meat bags? Also, Tradestar robots can joke or show interest in things other than combat (from promotion art)?? So they're sentient or at least have independent thinking?

Just asking out of curiosity.

This should be in general.

I don't know about the ronin, but those robots are tradestar workers, with AI/minds. They do work for tradestar.

It'll be flamed for not being useful in the general forums. I'll leave it here for more casual chit-chat.

The robots are workers, but sentient or not? And why would they be sentient if meat bags work just as good? I don't know, maybe we can come up with a theory or something, for fun.

You don't pick sections based on their response, you pick them based on what ♥♥♥♥ section they are.

The Coalition clones probably have a training schedule like in the movie Soldier. Brainwashed at birth.
The Ronin, I see them as nothing to lose outcasts or raiders; probably kicked out of their societies due to committing criminal activities. Kind of what the French Foreign Legion was back in 1830-19xx. (Nowadays the FFL rules are more strict, so they do not allow wanted criminals to participate anymore.)

Oh well, I am sure Data will come up with some story. (But then again, maybe not. -_-)

D'you mean sentient or sapient?
I'm sure someone will enlighten us all of the difference.

Nice to meet you, I am Someone.

Sapience is defined as wisdom, or the ability of an entity to act with appropriate judgment.

Sentience is the ability to feel or perceive subjectively.

Built-in AI should be able do that. Unless they really are meatbags who won't move without a commanding brain.

When I let my guys stand guard on their own, they do NOT act with appropriate judgment.

So I guess sapient is out of the question.

Also, moved to general.

As of yet, uncontrolled clones are barely sentient - their responses limited to duck for cover, shoot at enemies and look in the direction of explosions...

They are corpses doomed to horrible death.

I'm wondering why there isn't an AI faction that has a decentralized intelligence. Hive mind sort of thing. In order to kill them, you have to wipe out X%.

/\ This is actually a really cool idea. If pulled off, it could be like a Necron sort of thing, where after a certain amount of casualties they retreat.

When Data was presenting CC at GDC09 he referred to them [Coalition Soldiers] as brainless puppets, so their own intelligence is likely electronic, artificial, mass-produced, etc. They're biological robots, reverse cyborgs. Of course, they are made to be controlled externally by a brain as well.

Ronin, their story isn't clear enough to really know for certain, but at one point they were regular humans, prisoners and low class civs. Their consciousness may have been altered or replaced since then though.

Midas Robots, they're just AI working for their owner, or being directly controlled by their owner if the owner chooses.

Dummies, they're probably all controlled by AI that resides elsewhere. It isn't exactly economic to give your training/testing equipment individual thought etc. Setting them up for just external control would probably be cheaper. There are obviously multiple non-essential dummy controllers, since you killed one in the tutorial and they still got away. So there are either multiple cooperating controllers, or the controllers only act as localized extensions of the true central artificial intelligence, maybe just being a transponder for its commands. Whatever the case, I highly doubt the individual dummies have any intelligence of their own, since they're supposed to be cheap. And it would be fitting if they were dumb.

Brown Coats, no idea. There is absolutely no revealed story with them to my knowledge.

I think that the Ronin are a band of criminals without the means to be de-brained. In other words, like us today.
