... does it actually work? Or is it just there 'cause of the cool sprite?

It works. Just get a wounded unit close to it.

It didn't work on a wounded robot of mine

Works for me. The first medic drone (between the two robots) wouldn't heal them, so I called in a second one (to the left of the two robots and drone) and that one worked.

No idea why the first one didn't work.

I put one next to the guy gaurding my little mini bunker in the drone fortress assault and it kept him healthy, and the brown coat I flew over every once and a while. The I dropped one on the bridge and it simply would not work. I'm guessing it hast to be in your drop zone area to work or you can only have one up

Nailed it.

Whatever the reason, that medic drone is very hacky.

the first one didn't work because as soon as it wanted to heal robot 1 it said robot 2 needed healing, and vice versa. With 2 medics, medic A heals robot A, and medic B heals robot B. If a medic could heal multiple things at cone it would be imbalanced.

I don't see why it doesn't heal both robots at the same time.
They both loss HP so they should keep being healed until they reached their initial health.

Also, with actors with more than 100 HP, does the Medic drone heal them only up to 100?

This should never happen anyways.

But I assume yes.

I screwed up, there are some bugs in the code. This will be fixed next build. I'll post up a fixed copy of the Lua file once I get it done.

Would it be possible to make a drone that actually heals wounds? Right now, it only gives the unit health back, but the damage that was done to it stays. It'd be cool to have a lesser drone (this one) and a greater drone, that would heal absolutely everything (even lost legs/arms).

Not possible with current lua short of completely replacing the actor.

Can't it check your inventory, gib the actor and give the actor the same inventory it started with before gibbing?
