Oh, and Saint, all currency is backed up by gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and other pure, non-synthetically made, valuable materials.
Gold inflation is impossible, it is a pure substance, and is highly lusted for, even more than the more valuable element, platinum.

gold is the main currency in the game. it is "credits" because it isn't used in the production of units, it's just buying ♥♥♥♥. anything else is a resource and is used in the construction/fueling of other units.

I guess the tradestar is lending you money based on the assumption that you'll live long enough to fork over the gold or oil.

To answer two complaints about this game; that gold is an arbitrary resource and that based on the current value of gold, the prices are insane- this game clearly parellels the californian gold rush, where both where true. The people in the gold rush who made the best money wheren't the miners, but the people who supplied them; a pinch of gold for a single egg, for instance.

For god's sake. It's gold because gold is cute. It could be US dollars, duck heads, stamps, bottle caps, liters of coca cola, it wouldn't change anything. It's just a currency like any other.

For Christ's sake, it's a game. Gold is the currency because Data picked gold. The game works blissfully as it is, no need to reinvent the wheel
