While some of the goers here seem to be a little...stringent, on the kind of players they prefer in the community, most will be willing to aid you in your progression of learning to modify, and code the game, should you go through the proper channels.
And honestly they've got great tutorials, tons of resources (like sprites, sounds, and scenes you can learn from), and plenty of threads that you can learn from. Again though, go through the proper sequences before you start asking, or posting things.
Other than that, follow your dreams. It's here right in your hands.
