Hey guys, I'm a new user and I'm interested in purchasing a full license of the game. I love the little thumbnail GIFS that people make using CC. I was wondering if someone could point me to a useful guide or give a step by step on how to create these GIFS. That would be very much appreciated :) .

I'll second that.

Hi Stallion. Like you, I'm a n00b here, interested to purchase soon, and those avatars really crack me up. Making a static GIF image is easy, but I don't know about the animated ones.

Everyone, what tools do you all use for that sort of thing? I too would appreciate some pointers in this area. Keep up the good work with a very good quality forum about a wonderful game!

When in-game, you need to hold down the print screen key on your keyboard. It will then capture a print screen in .bmp format every 0.5 seconds or so.
You then need to collect these from the root folder of Cortex Command and use them in a gif creating program, I for one have not yet found a decent program for this though.
You could always do it manually in Photoshop though. =/

I recommend using GIMP. Open the first frame > Open rest as layers(make sure to select them in the right order) > Cropping > Optimizing > Save as animated GIF.

Hooboy, I was curious about this too, but that is a whole lot of work for a long GIF!

You can select multiple images at a time when opening them as layers.

I hold PrtScrn then load, crop, and cull from there with Jasc Animation Shop 3.

But for something where you have to actually play and capture frames at the same time, I would use AnimGet.

I record my window with camtasia, then crop to the part of the video I want, crop to the part of the screen I want, and produce the video as a gif. No performance hit on my PC.

Assuming you have a crappy computer like I do, holding print screen probably lags your game halfway to hell.
Personally, I use Camstudio. You may have to play around a wee bit with the video settings, but other than that it's great.

Me thinks that question was asked many times, but eh.
Ok, so, use the print screen, funtion. Then i use Vdub to crop, slow down, resize etc.
Good program if you want to make quick effect-less gifs.

QFT, Virtualdub is what I use for simple GIFs like the ones we make here for CC.

Wow! Lots of great help. I'm taking notes, as I often do in this forum. Thanks everyone. I'm trying Camtasia first (nice 30 day free trial). My initial attempt sucked pretty badly, so I won't inflict it on you just yet. But the new skill will be very useful. Thanks again!
