I can't find record of anyone mentioning this, so I thought I'd put it out there in case it's been overlooked.

First off - multiplayer with multiple keyboard controls = fail. Most keyboards only support 3 or 4 simultaneous keypresses.
Multiplayer with multiple mice, however, could be well awesome. You're freeing up some keys and will likely prevent key blocking, plus - well you'd all be playing with a mouse.
Rag Doll Kung Fu does this to great effect and there's no reason why Cortex Command couldn't do the same. Who *doesn't* have spare USB mice lying around?

just my 2c :)

i've tried this and sadly, it only reads the movement of the 1st mouse.
this might be different for other people, but this is what happened to me. i also tried using 2 keyboards. that didnt work.

...That's who, and I bet a few others don't, when there's no need there's no will.

how the hell would you get four people around one desk with four keyboards OR four mice? but you must have at least one keyboard:
Four mice and one keyboard? (weird mouse placement around keyboard+too many keys being pressed)
Four mice and FOUR keyboards? (havoc)

unless you don't have the regular desk, the one that is designed for one keyboard & mouse with a slight bit of extra space then you'd be constantly fighting over seating/placement ("hey move over your taking up too much of my space!"), if there's only one keyboard and four mice the only way you'd be able to play is if you had two left-handers.

The only way 4 player is plausible is if you use keypads/joysticks (though I have no idea how the hell someone could play CC with a joystick.)... or lan (which would only really work if the only shared thing was the material layer, player position and what keys are being pressed, that way all physics are done individually but that would be really really glitchy)

Only time I've played 4 player CC is with 4 wireless 360 controllers hooked up to a laptop displaying on my TV. It worked quite well.

I have spare USB mice laying around. I'm sure a lot of us do, so just because you don't doesnt mean there's no need or will.

And you wouldn't be fighting for space either. You've got one guy using left side of keyboard with the mouse near the center, other guy using right side with mouse on the right side of the keyboard. Why would this be any more cramped than four hands on one keyboard? 1=

Also as for four players with two keyboards, that really isn't hard to pull off. Just put the monitor back farther on the desk and have two keyboards separated by a few feet near the front of the desk.

I said "when there's no need, there's no will." not "there's no need or will.", it would be very stupid of me to say no one wants a usb mouse as I would definitely want one if I had a laptop.

I never discussed the matter of four hands and one keyboard, but I did say "The only way 4 player is plausible is if you use keypads/joysticks..." I would say 4 people and one keyboard is impossible to play a proper game. And I never mentioned four players with two keyboards, since two is really the most for one keyboard, this method would be acceptable.

http://cpnmouse.sourceforge.net/ multiple mice in any windows application, however it probably wont work in CC.

I think I've tried multiple mice at some point or other. Windows just uses them all at once, any of them is capable of moving the ONE pointer.

...Which I suppose you could use on any game for slightly retarded co-op, but I don't even know if Windows would LET you use multiple pointers. Rather doubt it.

Now.... multiple video cards and views? Sayyyyy, you get a computer, slap in your main card and 3 extra PCI video cards, and get 3 extra monitors. You'd kind of have to REALLY like CC, but it'd be interesting.

Yeah, windows does that. But seriously, go download Rag Doll Kung Fu (you can get the demo off steam) - it's coded to support multiple USB mice, so it's definitely possible.

1 keyboard + 4 players = FAIL
I tried this with some friends, and we lost to the easy computer. 2 keyboards on the same computer would be like the mouse thing: one person moves left, all the players move left. one player shoots, they all shoot.

I know Settlers 2 allowed multiple players with each their own mice... then again, those where the serial days... but if Ragdoll Kung-fu can allow different USB mice to correspond to different players, then CC can theoretically do it too!

Heck, I'd get a second mouse (and additional USB keyboard) if that means playing this multiplayer is going to be more fun.

Then all you need is support for multiple monitors and voila!

Sounds like a great solution IMO... ofcourse the question is, will they bother implementing all that? I sure hope so :)

not necessarily, your assuming that player 1 has wasd-hjkl and player 3 has that as well but on the other keyboard, but er4t+yuio, zxcs+vbnm, dfg+hjkl and <v^>+123(enter) would work if a little awkward.

edit: and 35+9, ,.+/, aq+;,45+. for switching actors and crouching

So... any update on the multiple mouse/keyboard thing?

Why deal with using multiple mouses when you can just use a 360 controller?

Use a Controller!!!

I hate playing Cortex Command with the keyboard anyway, no moonwalking.

Edit: Gamepads work too.

Keyboard only CC > all.

Guaranteed I have more precision and finesse than any of you.
