Re: Okay so this New Build Thing + My Thoughts on Cortex Command
Thing is the whimsical feel lasted for me until ~21-23. Whenever we got new maps and Lua. I liked Zombie Cave, and the weapon effects changes, but not much else about those builds. DeepChecks on the flame MOSRs! wtf! How did that last as many builds as it did? I also recently dug out B...21 I think, played some Prom Grounds and testbunker2 and enjoyed it more than whatever grasslands got mutated into (I liked it flat ) though the dreadnought blowing my own brain up on the latter was more annoying than funny, I'll give you that. I think it's a combination of rose tinted glasses and a different feel, rather than just one or the other. I'll have to do a qualitative analysis of those builds some time soon when I've got less on my plate.

The difference is quantifiable though. Just observe the mods made for B13, and compare them to the ones made for B24.
We don't have mods like the Panzer, the Arwing, the Stonelaser(?), or the Meteor Cannon anymore. You can see that the whimsy of the mods reflected the whimsy of the game. Granted, it would be more obvious if we didn't have the thorpocalypse or the other wipes.
Modders like farvantorna are hard to find in these "Serious" CC days.

It's less whimsical because we are subconsciously taught that it should be less whimsical. This is more true than you might care to imagine, the first mods I dl'ed were Darkstorm, Crobotech and Red Legion, those became what I saw as the norm in CC.

Who needs whimsy when we have space marines? ...
Honestly, I think people need to make FUN mods, rather than CONTENT mods. Stop worrying about how balanced something is, or if it fits into CC. It's a game. Make something fun.

The last time I ever downloaded (or ever will download) a mod like that was three years ago.
Just sayin.

Just sayin. seriously, what's the point to goofy/god weapons when all they do is subtract from the experience. at least in my own opinion this game is much more fun if you play it straight instead of as a giant ass that floats around shitting nukes.

Re: Okay so this New Build Thing + My Thoughts on Cortex Command
You people do understand that everyone has a different idea about what is fun? So this is really a pointless discussion. Some people like crazy weapons, some like 'realism'. Thankfully we have modders to please both parties. Also, it mildly deviates from what the thread is about, in my humble opinion.

Re: Okay so this New Build Thing + My Thoughts on Cortex Command
But I like X mods, so Y mod likers need to die in a chemical fire! Anyways, back around to the original point, geti, I know you mean just the code, but I think even that is probably salvageable to some degree at least. Yes, it was originally made in an 'inconsistent and arbitrary' way, but I don't see what improvements from that state would necessitate all of the work of redoing the entire .ini files. Stupid bullet weights, gib organization, etc, etc, each individual aspect seems that it wouldn't be particularly hard to just alter from the existing state, as opposed to redoing it entirely. I just don't understand the benefit that going back to a blank slate has.

Re: Okay so this New Build Thing + My Thoughts on Cortex Command
So hey new build. I'll have to play it and spew thoughts everywhere once I get time, working for the next four hours so no luck in there unless I have a coffee break or something.
