Re: Gameplay - What do you do in Cortex Command?
tons0phun wrote: Okay, so I've just found something new to entertain myself with in this game. Here's how it works: -You play as the Brain-bot, and only the brain bot. He's the only Unit you get. -Choose 3 weapons: 2 Primary weapons (shield counts), and 1 sidearm or grenade (not both). -Build a small bunker, with an entrance, and some sort of silo with one of the MK rockets in it. -Start to the right of the silo The goal? Cross the entire map (with the computer on Death difficulty), and make it all the way to the craft to escape from the planet! If the AI destroys your craft while you're traveling, you can't order another one until you are inside the bunker. I've tried this three or four times so far...still haven't made it. How delightfully diabolical.... I'll have to remember that when I capture the President. Me, I just spawn one of my soldiers (Oh snap, did I give something away?) and some wepaons and shoot the flying crap out of everything in sight.

yeah, similar to what i do. or open up prom grounds and just play on death, sometimes with an edited activities (only using drop pods, and with some extra weapons and nades thrown in, aswell as a 2 second spawn rate). that last one is scary when you get a coalition soldier coming at you and you dont know if he's carrying grenades or not (ie weather he'll explode or not).

I feel you man. Though there have been some hilarious moments where I bodycheck a Coalition Soldier and he explodes. Sometimes I survive with only a few scratches .

Better when you flak him and all the angry shrapnel shreds one of his buddies.

I always like what I imagine a game could be like more than the game itself, and in CC I'm given quite a bit of rein to achieve this. And if people like what I do, so much the better.

I prefer to take one of those dinky, adorable little Dummy Rockets, which seem oh-so harmless, then buy about 30-40 DSTech bombs, then fly the rocket in circles around the map as fast as possible, until it collides with an enemies craft. After imploding, I'll watch with glee as bombs fly everywhere and maul the map and every unit cursed enough to be in the way.

It's all about sniper towers. Place the brain bunker on open ground with easy access, build a few pillboxes above it with rifle-equipped troops, and flood the level with zombies. If you want you can put a dreadnaught or two inside the bunker as a last defense, but their clumsiness is usually their demise.

the most entertaining kind of battle is what i call last man standing. rocket silo with roof closed off and a very short tunnel leading to your brain. place about 7 guys and arm them to the teeth. now the fun part dont buy anything at all and try to hold off with those few.

Imagination is important. Once you add your own story or objective to a skirmish game, it turns into a whole new toy. That's why CC rocks the socks.

(or godly internet on both ends) viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11599Anyway, actor generators or actor-spawning weapons are great fun, particularly all-zombie games using the zombie generator. Especially the struggling around without a jetpack part.

i think we need some good rage zombies and a proper zombie apocalypse scene, that would be godly. we could either play slow VS fast zombies (slow have bombs, fast have melee only), or survivors vs. horde.
also, thank you Thoughtprocess for preventing me from sizzling something with the first part of your post.

I actually tried the exact same thing with CC's current zombies. Fat ones with shovel, thin ones with bombs. You start as one brain unit in a small pillbox and start defensing. It was surprisingly easy I had to restrict myself to using pistols and bolt action rifles only to make it a BIT harder. Stupid fragile zombie....

Should make a mouth/bite weapon for the zombies that when they shoot plays a "Braaainnsss" sound, and has extremely short range. And unless it could be made to stick on their face and look like a lower-jaw, just make it invisible maybe? I can already envision my character being mobbed by three or four of them, gibbing apart piece by piece. XD
