I play mouse + keyboard vs keyboard, the mouse player cant sharp aim due to some glitch. All's fair in the end.

Oh. Damn, you guys got all my hopes high :( An online mode would've been awesome!
Also: a lot of lag, maybe.

There was an online mod by zalo that served mostly to demonstrate that without a C++ P2P implementation or dedicated A+ servers online play for CC is prone to pretty amazing lag. I've been meaning to have a crack at it for ages as well but the issues with zalo's way of doing it dissuaded me pretty strongly.

Don't be dissuaded by my feeble attempts to concoct an online mod. I'm tempted to recode the thing from scratch, and to put it into an Arduino with an Ethernet shield. That way, it would be completely dedicated :) Unfortunately, the arduino is limited to 4 simultaneous connections.

The main barrier right now is the player joining code, and lag across continents.

Both are fixable (with more effort and more servers).

Heh, fair enough. I've always seen CC multiplayer as something that would work best either with A) 2-4 players playing skirmish against each other, B) up to 16 player free for all deathmatch or C) Many, many players each making up the actors of each team (like KAG is currently).

If I find a bunch of free time I might have another crack at it. I want to see if P2P would work better, cutting out the middle man of the server. I figure as long as I build a sensible interface (where you can feed in the netcode) then I could add a config file to determine how everything is sent anyway.

If I can find a week of spare time in my crazy life I'll give it a go but don't be waiting out for it or anything :P
