Alright; new idea.
We take a look into the process that went into making a popular mod.

That's a pretty good idea, as it'll promote/introduce modding to new CC players, a sort of official guideline.

[EDIT:]
It'll also serve as a nice read ha ha...

We talking a one-thing mod or a whole faction? Because those two things present different development experiences. With a one-off mod (jump laser, physics GUI, etc) it's basically just a healthy amount of work put into one idea. The "story" there would come from the initial inspiration, and maybe interesting issues or snags that came about during the mod's creation.

For a faction, there's those above issues, as well as the issue of trying to find and pursue some kind of thematic deal, not just in the visual and art sense but also the functional sense. There's also the issue of whether or not its intended to "play well" with vanilla stuff overall (aka balancing).

As far as I see it, however, it'd probably be mainly TLB and Bubs - numgun isn't terribly active nowadays, regardless of dev status.
Only on the forums. Not that i blame him.
and anyway, theres always something to talk about in game development, and content devs generally do talk about recent changes, but only in topics that its relevant in, and only in brief detail. (TLB has posted a lot of updates in the content tweak thread, saying the materials have been strengthened, random shits been tweaked etc).
A more formal dev-log would just expose that more, and prevent the "hay guise wi do the bullet shells brake mi base??? that shud b fixedd soon i think. x" posts.

Naaah, come on! You guys MUST have something. Even an update on the menu would get me excited.

Other indie games* don't seem to have this problem nearly as bad.

*A high bar, I know - just had to throw it out there.

Think the devlog claiming that third-party "factions" being able to be used in campaign is a bad idea. lol superpower units pwnery.

If people really want to use overpowered stuff they'd be able to add stuff into Base.rte or the appropriate Vanilla faction anyway, assuming factional limitations. Making it supported is barely going to decrease the amount of overpowered stuff being used. Furthermore, campaign is singleplayer: you will never have to play against someone that insists on using an overpowered faction in campaign.

This may not be entirely true. It sounds like Data is planning multiplayer through campaign screen.

Matter of fact I distinctly remember Data mentioning coop campaign gameplay.

I forgot about that co-op talk. So how's that going to work? Data said there would be a Risk-type strategy component to the game, in which, I suppose, regions would be engaged in a turn-based fashion and the outcome of these engagements would be determined by real time battle. If that's true, then I'm guessing the co op game mode would consist of two human players operating on the same turn-based map but never fighting in the same real-time battle.

What I mean is: you, as in Thor, are never going to have to deal with some idiot who insists on using an overpowered faction that you can't probably punch in the throat. Furthermore, restricting to Vanilla factions won't really do much: just encourage those that were going to insist on using an overpowered faction to include it into their Vanilla faction of choice.
Actually, right now I have an invincible Brain Case for stuffing around and an almost invincible Dummy, for similar purposes - in Base.rte and Dummy.rte, respectively. Seeing as they also cost negative 10 thousand gold, I'm pretty sure that's about as unbalanced as it gets. To prove a point, I could create an invincible blaster with infinite ammo and ridiculous fire speed as well, but I'm lazy.

How hard is it to email Weasel and say what you did to a game (in a nutshell) in the last week?

I also support more of those question answering dev-log posts

Who cares if I am playing with someone else or not? The fact of the matter is that it would still be like typing "there is no cow level." What's the point of spending time on a campaign if someone is just going to blaze through it in five minutes using Crobos 2.0.

I think the problem with endorsing certain overpowered mods is that they suggest a direction in gameplay which might be completely contrary to what the devs have in mind for the end product. Radically changing a game is of course largely the point of mods, but seeing as CC isn't nearly done yet, incorporating 3rd party content at this stage in development could be very confusing to new players.

It seems like it would be best to just get out a clean finished version of the game before making any major endorsements of mods.
