Re: So I just got PC Gamer in the mail today...
I played cortex command a while back after it being mentioned in an independent games festival blurb. Then I noticed online that build 22 came out with a zombie cave level. I was like w00t cortex command scenario straight from Data! How much better can it get? I loaded it up and I was so happy with all the new features, I went ahead and got it. The next day I got my PC Gamer. Considering that my scanner has worn out (my sketchbook is crying about it), I'll just have to type up a few highlights from the article. The huge, two page full spread (set on a backdrop of the zombie cave scenario, and containing a blown up pic of a ronin in all it's pixilated glory and a small screen shot of a whole bunch of drop ships crammed together in a canyon for no apparent reason) is a very positive and fun summary of the game, including a few tiny stick figure illustration for comic effect. The headline reads, "Yes, I would like to shoot a rocket launcher at zombies. Yes, I would appreciate the opportunity to jetpack-boost generously into the air and casually wire a missile into a pack of pixilated undead, kicking their guts and limbs every which way. Any right-minded gamer would swear this oath..." It goes on to compliment the game engine, specifically the destructability of everything, and the music and overall fun-ness of the game. Then comments "All cortex needs now is more campaign content to put the pretty tech to work." and proceeds to say that it's already in the works, which is wonderful! Finally, PC Gamer comments on how much fun they've already had with user-made mod content. "Even if it's currently a shell of characters, weapons, and environments, CC is a toy that we're hoping blossoms into a gem of retro charm and strategery." (yes strategery, that's not a typo. Gotta love PCG's coined words.) I SHOULD know how to cite this correctly, as I'm taking an English 204 course right now, but I'm going to be lazy and tell you that it's on pages 34 and 35 of PC Gamer issue 187, May 2009. And if you DON'T read PC Gamer, you should. 'Cause it's awesome. And they gave a great article on CC, which should be more than enough reason to get your monthly subscription. And no, I don't work there (but I wish I did).

Re: So I just got PC Gamer in the mail today...
PC Gamer should be purchased, either via subscription or at retail, for some of the same reasons that people should pay for Cortex Command.
Good PC game magazines are going the way of the dinosaur. Very much like a lot of print publications these days. People are just not paying for hardcopy publications. But I sincerely believe that they have a place and should be supported.
As well, I think that Data Realms should have a Twitter presence. I've been pushing Cortex Command to people on Twitter. Maybe someone could set up a Data Realms Twitter account (assuming that there isn't one already that i missed) and post occasionally.
If I'm way off base I'm sure someone will let me know.
