Possible choices of action...
A: EAT NEW USER
B: WAIT UNTIL MODERATOR BARGES IN
C: ACTUALLY HELP

Oh, the suspense...

Well, for getting around in CC (with actors), I would recommend using the jetpack and restricting walking to a minimum. Jetpacking is fast, typically controllable, and lets you get about anywhere. Rapidly tapping the Jump button gives you a near-infinite amount of fuel and it's more powerful than holding down the Jump button in most cases.

Uh, another tip is look before you shoot. Sometimes if you have a generic bullethose, you can just point in the general direction of your enemy and hold down the fire button, but a lot of the time people favor using balanced mods and weapons. So, go for vulnerable areas on enemy actors. The head is always a good spot to go for.

On tougher enemies or ones with no heads (Dreadnaught, UniTec's Aegis Mechs for instance) it's a good idea to try and indirectly kill them. For instance, on Dreadnaughts, some people aim for that little gap between the legs and the armor where the 'head' is for an instant kill, but that can be tough when you're getting a hail of bullets to the face, so aiming for the Dreadnaught's MG can end up disarming it. Then it's not really a Dreadnaught anymore, it's just an old gas tank on top of a crab.

Sometimes, the crudest methods are the most effective. Why buy a sophisticated smart bomb when you can just order an old Rocket Mk1 for 50oz and suicide bomb it into wherever? The flaming debris will crush even those biggest, baddest, mechs if the explosion and the shrapnel don't.

And finally... don't make topics like this.

Basically, shoot to kill and download mods for more enjoyment. There isn't a set standard of skill, since we can't really compare to each other (besides amazing stunts). Oh, and like Ragdoll said, don't make these kinds of topics.

As just a mod user, I recommend you download anything that interests you in the slightest, and promptly delete it if you don't like it.

As a forum member, I suggest you use the search topic before making threads, and follow rules, including the less obvious, minor ones.

As a modder, I advise you keep some of your first stuff to yourself, and before releasing anything, look at it in a critical way and ask yourself if it's really worth releasing at its current point.

While these kind of threads are innoxious, we like a specific subject to talk about, so avoid this kind of general thing in the future. But I can see why you would ask, since the place isn't really set up to be very receptive to newcomers.

Modding and installing mods-wise

Try downloading small mods first, because if you download a million big mods, there's a risk, they might conflict.

For instance I downloaded Map Pack 3 and Bunker Module Compilation, and it kinda ♥♥♥♥ up.
Now, you would probably have no idea how to fix this, that's why you need to do some simple modding.
I'd recommend starting with a weapon, you can download a weapon template or just edit one you like (or dislike) but I wouldn't recommend the latter.

You can get help from the wiki, but if you really get stuck, do not ask in General, ask in Mod Making!

Playing and tactics-wise

Now, if you aren't using any mods, I'd recommend making your 'windows' (you know, the holes you stick your weapons out of and hold down the trigger) like 1 meter above the ground, this way your enemies can't just dig your windows to smithereens and then walk in, they'll have to jetpack up there and do it, which is hard for them since they're DUMB.
But, what about entrances, you say. You can make one at the top of your base, maybe a door or a hangar door, but I'd suggest placing some guards/sentries there because enemy dropships will probably land on your roof anyway.

Posting

Use proper grammar, punctuation, spelling etc etc, try to be polite, and be careful, because Grif is a clever guy, makes nice mods, but he'll slaughter you if you're ignorant. (I like you Grif)

Lua mods only. Only happens when someone copies code and forgets to change variable names.

Well all you have to do is extract Map Pack 3 first, then get BMCP and extract everything except the Maps - Object.rte in that pack, then you should be fine.
BUT IF NOT, I PITY THE FOOL.

A search for the FAQ would not have killed you, OP.

That's because they contain the same content. BMCP contains a copy of the large MP2/3 library of objects (not sure if it's 2 or 3, they're quite similar).

I think it's 2, because when I ♥♥♥♥ it up, BMCP apparently didn't carry the incredidoor, so it must have been v. 2

That was really heart warming, Seraph.

But yeah, when downloading mods, be sure to go beyond the front page. There are plenty of wonderful mods which are a few pages back everyone already has them.

As factions go, for instance, I'd say the Emporians are the nicest looking, most creative, and in many ways most fun.

As single-serving mods go, I'd say the LRRADD is definitely up there with the best. Very underrate mod. Will have to use the search function for that.

I tend to use presets a lot, so there's less fiddling with the buying menu.
First preset is a light soldier with the basic shield, pistol, and grenade. Then I can just pick whatever strategic weapon/tool I need for the moment.
Next preset is usually an assault combo, like two heavy soldiers with a rifle n' shotgun.
