Well it's not a faction in the traditional sense - it only controls 2 robots, a crab, 2 guns, and several craft. That hardly is enough to be called a faction in the militaristic sense. Also, they are owned by FreeTrade, therefore aren't a faction themselves, but possibly part of one.

Though honestly, if I could be a commander or brain or whatever leader (because getting shot up is for suckers) that would be lovely. I've always wanted to be a necromancer.

But, if I had to join one, I'd totally join the Browncoats. I still remember the days when I barely ever installed mods, and the Browncoat Heavy was the toughest thing in my CC directory.
