Post Downloading Build 22
Do I have to download it and delete my current Cortex Command application, or is there a way to update?

Because I'm no totally sure if I still have my registration key around.

If you registered your old version of CC, the key and registration email are stored in Base.rte/settings.ini. You can retrieve them there, write them into a .txt somewhere, and use them in the new installation.
It is not recommended you overwrite your old install of Cortex with a new version, and you can easily tell the installer to write to a directory such as "...Data Realms/Cortex Command b22" instead of the usual "...Data Realms/Cortex Command". This will also help you keep track of what build you have.

So if he releases tomorrow (plz plz plz), 5 months.
If he releases a month from tomorrow, 6 months.
Luckily, lua-on-everything is worth it.
