Post subject: | Help needed - sprites wrong displayed colors |
Hello commanders, I just tried to create an actor using ronin soldier template but I got problems with sprites. I followed the tutorials, which told me to use 8 bit bitmap files indexed on the palette from base.rte. This is the head of my actor : It should be ok but, while playing, I got totally wrong colors, as you can see below : Although, the legs here have the same displaying problem. So, what am I doing wrong ? Did anyone got the same result/problem ? FYI, I used gimp2.8 to index the picture on the palette. And I then re-saved it with paint.net in order to get CC not to crash while loading sprites (gimp saved pics are crashing my CC ). |

Any version of GIMP beyond 2.6 doesn't save colours correctly to indexed/in-palette .bmp files, as far as I can tell. I'm using 2.6.12 and it works fine for spritework. If you can, use 2.6 instead. It'll also mean you won't have to go through Paint.NET. |

I have to draw my sprites in negative for them to show up right. That could be your problem too. |

@Arcalane: I uninstalled gimp 2.8 and installed gimp 2.6.12, then I saved my bmp picture of head in indexed colors on the cortex command palette and it didn't crash at loading the mod. The head of my soldier is now displaying normally : !!! Thanks a lot !!! @newton1212: Do you directly save your pictures in negative in your .rte ? Does it work then ? I find it surprising but well... idk |

Unfortunatly yes i have to draw and save them in negative for them to show up right. Heres a way to test if its the same problem. Make all of his sprite white and it should show up as a black block in the game. Or make it all black and nothing will show up. If either of those works you might have to do it in negative but i am using paint for windows 7 which i heard was incompatible. EDIT: Yes its a pain in the everything. EDIT: Sorry misread your post. |
