Do you ever forget to eat, and then realize after about 12 hours that you really suck right now? That you don't have any energy, drive or willpower left? That one beer felt like three or four? i forget to eat all the time, i have reminder-alarms set on my phone. That's my problem. My fuel gauge is broken. So everyone runs out of ideas or references every now and again. And I'd argue that it's often because of a poor creative diet. And by that i mean: when i'm bored and not taking anything in then i don't usually put any worthwhile material out. I can come at this from a graphics/art perspective. I have some secret hidey-holes full of really inspirational material or at least good reference-fodder. Larders full of nourishment, secret stashes, break-glass-in-case-of-emergency type stuff. And i'm going to post a few, but more importantly i'd like to see what you guys consume to get inspired or to get ideas. There's nothing new under the sun, everything comes from somewhere. Okay, so this is an amazing, extensive collection of pictures put together by the New York Public Library, you can wade deep into this ♥♥♥♥ and spend HOURS in it. I take no responsibility if you drown, cause it's a nearly bottomless well. Check it out. http://digital.nypl.org/mmpco/browse.cfm Also, i have a huge stack of old national geographics to look through. Also, I've been watching a lot of Stargate SG1 lately (every season is on Netflix, fyi), and while it's goofy and cheesy there's some really cool costume design in there, some interesting ideas. So, show us your hordes, your collections, your cool inspirational links (not heartwarming stories, things you mine creatively for ideas, inspiration or references) or other media sources (books, music, etc.). Sound good? Where do you turn when you run out of ideas? |

This is a great site BRIMMING with bird skulls. Look through them, they're great for designing head/face coverings and stuff like that. or maybe space ships? make of them what you will. http://www.skullsite.com/completelist/index.htm EDIT: while i'm at it, here's another great place for animal bones of virtually any sort. http://www.boneroom.com/index.html |

if you don't know, then act like you know: a lot of game industry professional artists just put their stuff on cghub for people to look at. I could spend DAYS just skimming it (and i have). Lots of cool paintings are there, click around. It''s worth your while. |

Androidarts goes without saying. ScreenshotSaturday can be a good stop too, but that varies from week to week. Here for interface and desktop customisation There's some good things hiding if you sift through deviantart too. CGHub is excellent. Allen, hit me up with an email at some point, I still want to work with you at some point but we suck at getting in contact, heh. This is a good idea for a topic. |
