Additonal Suggestions for my Black Mage mod
Hey everyone! I've been having a bit of fun with a black mage, I was wondering if anyone could have a go with it and give me some feedback on what they want to see in this future mod of mine. It's an adorable black mage with it's own gibs, it's soon to have sound effects and much more! Currently when it flies some of the title screen music from FF2 plays! What I want to know from you is: -More detailed sprites? Which ones specifically? -What type of spells from the Final Fantasy Series should it have? -What hilarious satire sound effects should I include when it does something? E.g on death or on being injured. -Should the wounds be flesh, metal/blackmetal, bone? -Anything else you can think of! Edit: I also aim to make one or two of you laugh whenever it starts to fly

Spells: Fire, Bolt, Blizzard are all musts. Poison is eh, I never used it but it might be good. A meteor or something though, that would be all sorts of cool.

I'm currently in the works of the fire, and it's racking my 3 years rusty coding brains. I would actually prefer to make poison second thanks! I could kind of mimic an invisible grenade launcher and the grenade would of course be a poison sprite (which would actually be easier then fire). I'm trying to get the fire to not be a fireball or anything like that, but a stream of fire to be burst from my friend.

Thanks Duh, does anyone remember those sinister black mages from the ninth final fantasy? I think they actually look a tad more like them then the original black mage. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii65/Shinyao/screenff9-07.jpg With that said, do you think I should maybe re-colour them to fit that black mage and add the smoking wounds? I've been working on the cloth tears, hence the random gibs! If you test them out you can see that when the hat falls off theres a little tear in it too

yeah, wounds and offsets need fixing especially the leg offsets. Screenshot should be embedded in the OP and a .png preferably, just open the shot in paint and save as-> *.png, then upload to something like tinypic.

Cheers for the feedback Geti, could you be more specific? Are the legs offset too far apart or are both too far to the right/left/bottom/top? I think the legs may be too long for a black mage, especially in this screencap. Also, what's an OP? original post? I'm guessing the screen dumps are much lower quality, thanks.

OP is original post(-er, depends on the context), yes, but the screendumps aren't low quality, they're just uncompressed bitmaps, which are a pain to download. Anyway, legs are too far forward, a much better/more dramatic -> fun stance could be made with the hip joint on the FGLeg moved back a little and the FG and BG standpaths taken from the coalition soldiers and tweaked to be possibly less splayed. Also, on the leg sprites, remove the outline on the top of the thigh, it'll make them seem like they're more attached to the cloak.

All other spell suggestions should be put on hold until the spells [Toad] and [Mini] are properly implemented and polished.

P.S. - Sprite-wise he shouldn't be so skinny looking and his eyes shouldn't be sprited in but just be two glow pixels.

Thanks for the standpath idea, what do you think of the clone movement paths too? I used them originally but then decided to go for a little bit more of the dummy movement paths, seems more robot for a black mage. I actually spent an hour doing the attached cloak thing like you said before I gave up since they stood out even more! I'll have to figure out how to do this properly.

just remove the black pixels. paint whatever exact colour the cloak body is over them in each leg frame. the clone paths are a bit... wierd. they're very smooth and deliberate, but it also seems kinda lethargic. I think it'd be a good idea to write your own up, search for roon3's tutorial on them.

Mini would be hard And thanks for the eye idea, I'mma do that! but I do like how their sprited eyes hide behind the hat occasionally (I'll just create a personal backup). Here's an idea though, does anyone know how to start off a weapon at zero so it has to reload before it gets any ammo once the character is implemented? I could have some big spells that require a charging time!
