What you need to do is locate the color palette in the base.rte folder and copy it to say your desktop then open it in paint and select all, copy.... open your sprite in paint expand the border and paste the palette in, then resprite using those colors and crop and save when your done. (sorry for the rambling sentence) I hope this helps you p.s. I would have edited yours and reposted it but I'm at work. You will learn better this way anyway so it all works out. |

It is the palette. That is the only thing that would cause that problem. You probably did it wrong. Post the sprites and I'll fix them. |

I don't mean to necro post, but I was having the same problem, and upon following joost1120's advice, it worked. What I want to know is why? This feels like a rain dance to me. If you paste one image over another in a .bmp file, doesn't that overwrite the original (bottom) image? I imagine it must be something to do with the indexed colors? Also, would it work if, while editing an image in GIMP and using layers, I were to insert the color map as a layer underneath all the others before flattening the image? I would really like to be able to use GIMP for the whole thing. Paint sucks to work with, as I'm sure you're aware. Thanks for any response. I don't like working with systems I don't understand. Even if I do know how to achieve the results desired. *Edited for clarity. |

The reason it works like that for paint is that paint keeps the image palette of the opened palette image and applies is to the image you paste over it. In GIMP you can circumvent the matter by downloading the palette files and using them as your color map. |
