Post Insta-Shader
So, you all know i im ♥♥♥♥ when it comes to shadeing.
so im making this, so all we lazy modders (ie, me), wont have to shade as much.
Attachment:
InstaShade.rar [600.18 KiB]
Downloaded 291 times

Instructions;
1. paste your non shaded image into the .bmp file thats in the folder.
2. run the app
3. set up the light how you want it.
4. open a SEPRATE sniping tool.
5. take a snip or screeny of your sprite with the lighting effects you set up.
6. paste it into your origional file.
7. run cc!

(note: This is a wip, theres lots of room for improvment.)
p.s.
Ccs got somewhat of a limited pallet so, it sometimes comes out with some weird shadeing colors,
also, you still have to do some dithering and such to make it look better, but this will eventualy do that for you.

I'm sorry if this sounds mean or whatever, but lafe, you need to actually learn how to sprite. This program is going to do jack ♥♥♥♥. You can get the same effect by using the render light option in photoshop.

I'm going to have to agree with ThunderToes sadly. No program is really going to be able to shade everything perfectly without you needing to give it an accurate 3d model, which is yet more complicated. Whilst you might be able to rely on this for a while, you'll soon find yourself needing to shade and sprite yourself; this program may allow you to find some techniques to improve your own skill however...

This strikes me as a very good idea. I haven't tried it and don't know how well it is implemented or if there are any other programs which do it already, but, it does seem like something that would help those of us who are better at code than sprites.

Also, well done lafe. you seem to be putting much more effort in to your spellling than you used to.

Just my 2p worth but what the community needs is a nice standalone tool for selecting parts and graphically setting offsets etc with modular parts (weapons/class based leg sets with walk paths) hosted online to choose from that automatically generates ini (perhaps eventually with built in lua) to allow fast creation, recombination and evolution of peoples ideas.

1. We don't need an .rte maker, if you're too lazy to do that we really don't want your mod on the forum.
2. We already have an offset program, which basically does what you describe.
3. Why would it need to have Lua? Man, kids these days do not even attempt to make sense.

I will admit, I wouldn't mind another editor in game that dynamically sets offsets with dragable parts, much like the gibbing editor does with gibs.
The current tool for offsets is great, though.

Can you drop a link to this tool I think I read about it ages ago but the people on that thread were complaining about it being too hard to use.

Grif I have no problem putting the effort in to make an rte but some people have good ideas which if this ini generator combined with donated ready made modules and a decent GUI would allow these non developers to create some content and add immediacy to the process.

Of course those who take the time to customise further by creating their own lua and their own sprites will still get kudos from the devs but it might mean that people who would otherwise not spend the time to create content become inspired to go the extra mile when they get that initial gratification of seeing their ideas in game.

Personally I can't wait till data adds some more actor classes to the game to expand the possibilities for mods.

There is no such thing as a good mod from non-dedicated modders. If they don't have the drive to learn the really quite simple current methods of inserting content, they simply will not have the stamina to make something truly great.

EDIT: That said, I'm not disparaging the utility of graphical utilities. They would be nice, I just think the priority should be content before ease of creation.

Never heard of it, unless he's talking about the one that the people have been making quite recently. If he doesn't.

tl;dr: Notepad.
