How do people make good sprites (and what do they use?)
Hello again.
I've started making my mod, but I ran into the problem of not being able to make small pictures (sprites) in GIMP. I need to know if there is any way around this or what I should do differently.
Anyone is welcome to reply, ESPECIALLY DRL CONTENT DEVELOPERS!!!!!!!
Thank you.

Well, my sprites aren't the best, but I figured out how to make decent small sprites in gimp. Make it 10x15 or so for pistols, etc, but usually, I keep the height 10 for guns. You can look at my mod sprites for specific aspects

What I mean is that when I try to make small sprites the brush seems to not let me use the opacity feature (which is the only reason I'm able to make the sprites). Secondly, when I make a larger size picture and try to shrink it down the image becomes blurry beyond all reason. Please Help!

Well, for the resizing, it's really hard to make sprites in anything but 1:1 scale, so going from big to small rids you of much of the crispness of the sprite.
For the brush, Cortex can't use opacity anyway, so don't bother with it. You do have the palette loaded for your image?

If you use gimp, I usually zoom in 10 times, and use the smallest brush, if that helps. It makes it asier to work with.

Re: How do people make good sprites (and what do they use?)
How would complicated programs with brushes n' stuff help you where MS Paint can't? Isn't spriting generally done pixel by pixel?
All you need is MS Paint Zoom Copy and Paste 1 pixel pencil and Colour picker-upper thingy

Is there any way to make the bloody palette work on Paint.net? Cause, sprites from that in CC are straight up retarded.

Nope, not unless you happen to want to edit the source code yourself or specifically make an add-on that does. That is, if you want to save in Paint.Net, you can just copy it back over to normal paint just fine.
I personally use paint and reference photos if possible. Which is almost always, because I'm really good at finding things. I occasionally use Paint.Net to make a rotated reference so I can have something to base the rotated version off of as opposed to just a straight off utter resprite.

you can also change the type of resampling in GIMP when you resize it to not use bilinear/cubic interpolation, and just use nearest neighbour. but that happens by default on indexed images.

Re: How do people make good sprites (and what do they use?)
GIMP is something like Photoshop, right? Here's what I do if I need some transparency stuff...
First off, make a new file, draw your sprite in there, possibly in palette, although not yet indexed, and could have multiple layers. You could have the background set to CC's invisble pink. When you're done with a multilayered sprite, delete parts of transparencies that will alter with the pink (for example, you're trying to make a gun001 muzzle flash yellow a bit, delete the transparent layer only at the pink parts), and flatten them. Now copy or duplicate a palette.bmp image, resize it to your sprite's size and fill it with invisible pink, and copy paste your sprite from your master file. I suggest using the magic wand to remove the invisible pink from the master file.
