Mini Mod Thread
Alright screw it, I don't care why this was removed in the first place but I am sick of people posting tiny mods to the main forum, and also tired of people being afraid to post first mods.
So uh yeah, new modders/anyone else, feel entirely free to post any mod you want here at all.

I still haven't learned to control my urges to post all the time, and I have now made myself look like an idiot. AGAIN.

Re: Mini Mod Thread
Ok, I'll bite. A burst fire pistol. I am not completely happy with the shell casings, but they get the job done. At close range shooting it is pretty hard to see the three bullets, but at greater ranges the spread is more obvious. As you can probably tell I went for the kludgy option of using a narrow three bullet shot like a shotgun rather than properly firing three bullets one right after the other. If I knew the first thing about lua I might try and tackle it that way, but for starters this works well.

Re: Mini Mod Thread
No grif, no.
Releasing even the smallest mod is worth a topic since the creator wants feedback on his creation. And on a crappy small "hurr mini mods" thread, he'll get said feedback either extremely little or none. And releasing mods is about getting feedback and compliments.
So roll back that ***** of yours and think if you'd really want to post all your little "templates" on a small cramped topic where others will post theirs too and in the end the whole mod/creation will be insignificantly ignored.

Re: Mini Mod Thread
Because it's much better to have 20 topics of "Hey guys, I made a pistol that shoots two bullets at once!"

...or perhaps when posted they will be completely ignored in favor of politicking and bickering.

To do a better burstfire, you could try duplicating the heavy sniper rifle code and firing an emitter. Then, with some shenanigans (there's more than one way to do it) you could have a more "realistic" burst fire.

This gun shoots into an attachable on itself, which has a custom wound of 3 shots. It's a hacky way, and not reliable, but it's closer to burst fire than anything else out there. (burst fire with a magazine capacity for multiple bursts, that is) No images because it looks just like a Ronin M16; I made no attempt to give it a unique appearance. If you were to simply fire an emitter that shot three times as grif is seemingly suggesting, you wouldn't be able to readjust your angle between the shots, and that would be lame. However you could give the shots varying velocity, which would give them more of a successive appearance even though you would still be shooting all three instantly. Asatruer, good idea with the casings, but it may work better if you gave the MOSRotating a sprite of three casings and made it gib on impact into three MOSParticle casings. As you have it now, the three disappear on impact with the ground. With the way I suggested, this would not happen. On your simpler burst method, you may want to look into separation. It's a variable on the round that can make variance in the starting point of the particle in relation to the muzzle. This way it would look more like the rounds were fired in succession.

Except for the fact that nobody does that.Because of the massive standards set by Darkstorm and such, everyone makes massive modpacks, or uses Lua to make something completely awesome. The smallest mod I can recall coming out in recent times was a mind-control gun. I agree with Numgun, we don't need a mini-mod topic. I'd rather have mods that were properly critisized, no matter how small, than we throw them all into a dumping ground to solve a problem that we don't have. And even if we did need one of these, why did you put it in Mod Making? Wouldn't a topic about releasing mods make much more sense in mod releases?

Re: Mini Mod Thread
Can't side with you on this one, Paulie. =/
Unique threads just make it hard for people to find stuff. It's bad enough that people don't use a search function, but we'll get people saying "man i saw this mod in the mini-mod thread but that thread is so huge I can't find it help?"
If a mod sucks, it will fall down the subforum. If it's good, people will post incessantly until the thread is 60-something pages long (and require a clipping).
What we really need is a minor mod subforum. Maybe further delineate the mod releases into "single releases" and "pack releases?" Just a thought.
And just as a further derail, anyone thinking about posting into this thread with their mod should probably pass for now. Maybe this thread should be a discussion of whether or not we believe something specific should be done about "mini mods."
YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT THE REAL SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS? JAMES UPLOADING THE MODDB TO THE SERVER SO THAT I CAN FINISH IT IN PLACE. THAT WOULD BE A REALLY GREAT IDEA HOPEFULLY SOMEONE MENTIONS THIS TO JAMES THANKS.

Re: Mini Mod Thread
The minor mod compendium was closed. Why did you make a new one? If I knew the first thing about lua I might try and tackle it that way, but for starters this works well. Make it fire an emitter that can only fire 3 bullets and shoots them very fast. Burst shots! You don't need lua for everything.

Yeah, this doesn't seem to be going anywhere, and I thought the compendium itself was a bad idea in the first place so...
