Post subject: | Leg/Arm Plating |
Hi all. I've just recently gotten into the whole modding thing, and this'll be my first post, so... yeah. Hooray! Anyway, I've been working on an actor, and I've run into a bit of a problem. For some reason, his arm defaults to frame 0, meaning that it's perpetually stuck in the "most bent" position. This doesn't seem to be the case for any of the default actors. The actor's based on Azukki's templates. I can't post a screen at the moment, but if what I'm saying isn't clear I'll try to elaborate. (Also, apologies if this has been asked before. I did a quick search, but I wasn't entirely sure what I was searching for, so... no results. ) |

You need to have the sprites' filenames ending in a three digit number of their order, starting with 000 For example, gun000.bmp, gun001.bmp Then, for the filename in the ini file, don't add the numbers to the end. For example, mod.rte/gun.bmp Then, for the frame count, put in the total number of frames. For example, FrameCount = 2 ... This might no be your problem; on second thought. Your contracted/extended offsets might be off. Too high of X values on the extended offset, I think. But I'm not sure. It could also be that your MaxLength is set too short. |

Thanks, Azukki. Turns out it had something to do with the Y value of the idle offset. Decreasing it seemed to solve the problem. |

Post subject: | New Question: Leg/Arm plating |
Another quick question (I figure I'll keep it all in one thread...): I gather it's possible to make additional leg/arm armor, but I'm not clear on the best way to do it given how legs and arms animate. Should I just be making a new leg that sits over top of the existing one, or is their a way to go about this with attachables (similar to, like, a helmet or chest plate or whatever)? I'm slowly getting the hang of actor modding. Hopefully I won't have to flood the board with questions before I'm finish playing around. |

Attachables, you can't give an actor more than too legs. (Maybe you can in an unconventional hacky way, dunno) |

Arms and legs can't be covered with things that animate with them, unfortunately. The best you can do is attach solid things at the hips and shoulders that sort've "hang" and provide cover to the limbs. Things attached to the arms and legs will at least rotate with them, which is why this will work. And don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need. Just try to give it a shot first. |

I tried it out using attachables, and they only rotate sort of nicely, which is what led me to ask. I added a shin plate and it rotated with the leg while walking, but when sitting or whatever you want to call it, the armor stuck out at a 90 degree angle . If that's normal though I don't feel so bad. Thanks guys, I'll keep playing with it. |

Yep, attachables on legs seem to work fine, see my Oyster, but not arm plates. don't know why. |
