Ingame ModDB/Browser?
Is it possible to make a function inside the game to (internet connection permitting) browse, download, and install mods instantly? Would a separate website be required for submissions and stuff?
Here's what I'm thinking. Ingame, on the main menu, you have the option "Browse Mods". You click, and you come to your basic spreadsheet layout, you know, "Browse by Mod Type, Author, Size, Screens Included, etc". You click on a mod that catches your eye, and you come to a Detail screen, where-in the author has submitted extra details about said mod. The Detail screen may be just two windows, one for screenshot(s), and one for detailed text. I imagine a screenshot widget under the screenshot window. Now, having read the description, you can choose to download, and immediately install.
This doesn't sound silly, does it?

Yes, but the feature list he wants is not at all possible with the current mod setup.

Re: Ingame ModDB/Browser?
Technically, it's not. But you could take one of those "All mods from Build X" .zips and put it on a database, and then you'd be set.

Re: Ingame ModDB/Browser?
I was thinking the same thing earlier on. There could be a mod database on DRL somewhere, and people would upload a mod and a picture or .gif to go with it, and there'd be a section in the buy menu to browse mods. There'd be tiles with the mod's name and picture, and when you hover the mouse/selection thing over it, it'd display info that the uploader gave it. And here's where my idea gets a bit stupid, but people could have a gold bank, and all the gold left over in campaign battles that the player has won is deposited in this. The mods are assigned a price, and the player can use his gold to buy his mods for use in the campaign. Yeah. EDIT: Oh yes, and the mod's creator would get 50% of the gold one of his products cost every time someone buys it in the campaign, to use himself (32.5% goes to Tradestar and 17.5% tax goes to teh guvurnmant). The mod database would be moderated, and prices would be checked.

The mod database would be moderated, and prices would be checked. That would require a 'persistent world'-esque thing. The gold count couldn't be kept in-game, so it'd be on the site. Basically, modders get e-penis. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for an electronic ♥♥♥♥.

That's basically how I'd imagine it'd happen. I have no knowledge of how this could actually be achieved, but as a conecpt I like it. It might give more incentive to produce better mods. Maybe there could be a development and storage cost when people upload their stuff to the database, depending on a mod's size or something. It'd be far from real business, but it'd be a fun sub-game kind of thing to play. Maybe corps could be brought back and they compete for cash through this system. I'd like to see how the big factions compete, like AAL, KMF And DSTech.

Re: Ingame ModDB/Browser?
I'm making an external mod database--one more easy to browse and very similar to garrysmod.org
