Re: The Crow, The Bear and the Serpent... RECALLED TO LIFE!!
So i don't know anything about coding or spriting, but i've been thinking about ways in which to capitalize on the frantic, close-quarter bunker fighting that often happens in an endgame in CC. So i've come up with an idea for a faction. I'd write a really contrived sci-fi fanfic backstory, but that usually falls on its ass. So i'll say that these are natives to a planet that, beneath the blank surface, is tunneled to the core with bunkers. Its inhabitants are a race of people not unlike the cave-people from that movie "The Descent", but who have developed a tribal society based upon found technology and animal worship (specifically the bird). So i'm thinking long, spear-like main weapons and short small-arms. No mechs, just an endless stream of savages who are adept at tunnel-warfare. Anyway, i've got a few sketches i've done of what i want them to look like, and a helmet. This is the brave, the most common and versatile unit in the fighting force. armed with both a machete and a highly-inaccurate submachine gun (not pictured) and wearing and respirator that is both functional and ceremonial, he's meant to look scary and be quick. His shoulder-coverings are made from the skins of the tunneling ground-birds his society worships in the same way the Native Americans of the Great Plains revered the buffalo. And here's the lighter "scout" equivalent. He commonly carries a short, bolt-action rifle i have yet to do a good mock-up of. He's wearing a similar feathered cape. And here's a helmet i've designed. i sort of used a picture that was posted on here (i can't remember the artist's name for the life of me) as a jumping off point. Anyway, it's the civilian model that light troops could wear. I could expound on all this, if anyone's interested in helping me make a faction out of it.

Re: Faction?
If you want to learn to code, just check out the stickies in the mod making forum. The sketches could use a little more detail, but other than that they're great.

Re: Faction?
Yeah, they're more gestural than detailed. There are some weapons sketches to be downloaded below, which are also pretty rough. I don't know if i said this, but these pictures are just me getting an idea down as fast as i can. This idea is nowhere near the "polishing" stage, it's really vague even still. I've read through the coding tutorials and i got about 2 paragraphs into each one before i needed to go out for a cigarette. It looks pretty complicated, and it's not something i'm even going to attempt until the game's ported to my native OS. I'm not very mechanically minded to say the least. Anyway, i'll just keep putting material in this thread as i produce it. Attachment: Bird native gear A.jpg EDIT: additionally, these are some more rough mock-ups of what these beings will look like. Re: Planned Faction - Comments/Help Welcome.
I've been working on this a little more today. I thought of some interesting single-use weapons that these people could have. There are a few of them in the picture below. Attachment: single use weapons.jpg And here are some more weapons and bits of gear. I've added a potential actor, the Priest. I really want to show (without getting ahead of myself) the tension between the deep tribal roots these people have and the techno-savvy world that surrounds them, like when you see a musket with feathers and beaded strips of rawhide on it. These uncivilized people have taken what they can from their world and made it their own. I wanted to show that with this new set of weapons. Another (darker) thing about these people that i've been trying to get across is that they are a society that creates nothing. They haven't changed at all and never will, and they offer nothing to the rest of the world. They know how to kill in the dark, and are very crafty, but past that they're monstrous savages who've really never produced anything. They just modify other weapons with enchantments and charms from their sick, backward beast-worship. I guess what i'm trying to say is that these are not good or noble guys. They're sub-human and wretched, non-generative killers. It's best to leave them alone. At least that's what i'm going for here.

/nerd modeReminds me of Kenku from D&D creatures. Looking good though, and very original. It'd be pretty awesome if you can manage to make a mod out of it.

So, uh... Dropship. Attachment: Dropship Idea.jpg It sort of reeks of "Reavers" from firefly, i know. but i still think it's cool. It's more of a diagram than a drawing, so it's not very "arty" or whatever. I'll probably post more character art later, and try to puzzle out how they fit into the cortex command universe a little more.

Here's my attempt at the Boom Stick. It doesn't have only one use, and it's the wooden version

Re: Planned Faction - Comments/Help Welcome.
Wow, i haven't had a chance to play any of those but i'm pretty flattered. I will as soon as i get a chance to use windows. I'm a mac user. So, i don't want to get ahead of myself, but anyone wanna go halfsies on this with me? I'll do the art and learn to sprite, and one of you can help me to code it? or, hell, all of you could help with coding, go opensource style on this. Anyone interested should PM me. I'll keep posting some sketches and ideas. Speaking of which... Attachment: notes on figure.jpg

Are these just sketches?
If so could you do a high quality image? You seem to be good at drawing.

Re: Planned Faction - Comments/Help Welcome.
Well, i might not post too many more pictures actually. If you want to be on the inside of this project, we could always use more help. That's where the ideas are going to be exclusively from now on, to prevent "borrowing" or "outright theft".
As far as a detailed painting/drawing, i might, but i'm in the "get your ideas on paper as fast as you can" stage right now. Any extra art is more likely to fall at the end of the project, but i might get bored before then, and it's not exactly sensitive information.
So, uh. stay tuned.
