There's a fan-made 2d side-scroller called Halo: Out With A Whisper that uses the sprites from this site. I think the creators deserve more recognition, since the only other 2d halo game I've heard of was Halo: Zero (there are more, though).

They do look really cool but the you tube video doesnt look that good. The only good bit is the mongoose and I dont know what the hell is going on with the banshee.

Also, I debate the usefulness of these sprites- really, they're far too proportional.
Moral of the story is for actors, ripping sprites is bad. Effects, maybe, but actors, never.

I agree. For actors, I'd like to sprite my own (even if they turn out horrible). Those backgrounds, though, could be used to make some sweet halo maps or bunkermodules; that is, if permission was given from the creators.
