All morons:
Lua does not instantly mean you can make absolutely anything in this game.
Odds are, it will be even more limited in early iterations than .ini modification is now.
Here is the ENTIRE TEXT of the source of the rampant community hype.
Quote:
Lua scripting. We are finally starting to integrate proper scripting into the engine. At first, it will only handle game logic for scenes, so scenarios and events during missions can easily be set up in external script files and not be hardcoded. Eventually, we hope to expose AI and other actor behaviors as well, so you can literally make your own AI modes - with control all the way down to how the AI guys look, aim, and shoot.
The current data (.ini) files will still be left intact, and the script files are just to be added and referred to by the object definitions in those existing data files.
NOW.
Read it carefully.
Does it mention actor coding? Does it mention replacing the current CC variable definitions? In fact, it mentions the exact opposite. It WON'T replace default coding.
ALL Data mentions is the ability to manipulate things during Scenes, presumably in a Create your own Campaign sort of style, and the ability to edit AI. NOT GUNS, NOT CRAFT, NOT DEVICES.
Lua != Mods that defy the fabric of CC
Lua != Online play
Lua != You demanding that your stupid ass impossible mod be made and having it cranked out in ten seconds.
YOU ARE NOT GOING TO INSTANTLY SEE FABULOUS MODS WITH LUA.
LUA WILL NOT INSTANTLY SHAKE THE FABRIC OF CC TO ITS CORE.
LUA WILL NOT DO MUCH AT ALL, REALLY.
Now. The next person I see who mentions Lua as a possible solution to a currently impossible problem gets a boot lodged firmly up their ass.
