They way many people learn would have been from the stickies or from looking at other mods and fiddling with them.

WIth no stickies, the second option is probably the best you can do alone right now. Though someone might be kind enough to teach you.

Just start off by fiddling with the variables n' crap, haven't played the recent builds so I don't know if anythings changed or not, but it's a good way to get started.

THOR scapegoating. Stop doing this.
A. Wait for electroclan to make new stickies.
B. Learn from someone or from other mods.
Continued.

Thank you and have a nice day.

The easiest way to learn how to mod is this:
Make a backup of Base.rte.
Modify Base.rte to your heart's content.
Begin to discover valuable skills.
Make a mod.
Test said mod, see if you consider it worth posting on the forums.
Dump said mod in the recycle bin and promptly clear said bin. It's never worth posting.
Learn how to get mods out of Base.rte
Continue experimenting.
Download mods and learn how experienced modders generally do things.
Make a second mod.
Delete this one too.
Continue this last process until you get to around 8-10.
At this point, you might consider actually releasing a beta to a few forum friends through PMs.
At around 30 overall "mods", you might actually have something worth releasing on the forums.

If you go on IRC, I can talk you through some of the basic stuff.

Go to Base.rte (back it up first.)

Open up "Ammo.ini". Look for the code for SMG bullets. Change a number, see what happens. Rinse and repeat until you understand how bullets work. Go to another .ini file. Change stuff there. Etc. etc.

Well the concept is pretty easy but the typing can be a huge pain... to make a gun (one) you need to make a folder called "Gun-Name".rte. In the rte.folder, you have to include a folder with the gun spirte, muzzle flash, and ammo clip. Then you have to make a folder with the reload sound, gun sound, and if applicable bullet sound (like explosives... you don't want a silent explosion :P) Next you have to include a wordpad or notepad doc that has the information. This coding is the tricky part... to make it simple, simply go to the base.rte and copy and paste the information from one of the guns. Then modify it as much as you need to to make sure you're not missing anything. Test it, and if it works and is post-worthy, put it up here
