Low, rumbling sound sets in. A massive shockwave blasts away from the beam from both sides (in total silence), evaporating actors into red bood particles that float slowly away, the beam getting brighter in the process. Then the beam pulls up from the centre with an explosion and disappears, all the particles that were floating are pulled towards the centre (or just fall down if they are further away). A deafening explosion sets in during this last stage. Finally, only glowing edges of a giant crater remain to remind the world of the...uh...the...horrendous Omega Experiment? PS Lag probably included :D THIS is what I'm talking about! EPIC LASER REQUIRES LAG. IT FEEEEEDS ON IT!!! OM NOM NOM.

I'm pretty sure numgun wants to make it fire as cleanly as possible. I don't know what your obsession with lag is.

Lasers by standard have lag. The idea is that the particles would be numerous and small, not small in number and huge. That would generate lag, but maybe we can do this like the laser rifle and make it fire huge laser BMPs at a fast rate.

						What the what the what
the laser rifle shoots mopixels you do realize that right? there's no bmps involved
  man you're dumb
ps making things without lag > making them with lag just because you felt like it lagging
The only time I've seen lag USED as a technique (well) was Electroclan's lightning gun; it spawned a shitton of particles above you so you could actually see the muzzle flash.

I mean shooting multiple projectiles so fast they look like a continuous beam. And I know the laser rifle uses MOPixels, you troll. BMPs and MOPixels, it doesn't matter. Just MAKE IT AWESOME.

I can only count one idiot posting here.
Seriously, why would you want someone to make a weapon that lagged? What a pointless suggestion.

Seriously, why would wouldn't you want someone to make a weapon that lagged? What a pointless great suggestion. Fixed. But on topic, and back at SeriousTown, it is better to have a very large lazer without lag, but with the number of particles required to have a big laser, make Epic terrain/face rape, AND still look good, its not easy to make it NOT lag. Plus , there is all the dirt, concrete, blood, gibs, and other various debris thrown up from the laser that only contribute to the lag. It's not a good thing to have lag, but if you want it to be awesome, its been a neccesarry evil. Ok, I'm sorry this was even brought up, let's move on.

						Lag is bad. Always.
If you have to use so many particles that the game does not run properly then you have not made a good weapon.
Lag is bad. No lag. Bad.

Lag is bad. No lag. Bad. If so, you are saying the original Ypsilon is horrible. And what about the Zero Division Cannon/Bomb? Or the Lua Telekinesis? I'm not saying lag is good, I'm saying it's hard to avoid.

The problem is that graphics cards are oriented to things like 3D models and the like. Though I'm sure they are capable of handling things like glows, but the main physics will stay on the CPU. Unless data wants to make four different builds. That and allegro has no facility to use graphics cards, so it has to hook into OpenGL or something.
