Re: The Crow, The Bear and the Serpent... RECALLED TO LIFE!!
I meant to ask how the new paths were different from the old ones. After trying it out myself, I can see that the Crow walks much more smoothly. Much more natural-looking than my attempt, anyways.
Can you see what you can do about the crawl paths? Given the current size of bunker module we have to use with these guys, actual working crawling would really help.

when you work, i work: behold, a bear painting It could stand to be better, but i sort of worked myself into a hole from which i couldn't work out of. I haven't painted for a bit. Meanwhile, i think this looks the best out of all the bear stuff i've done.

Not only the best it's a really good reference: not as abstract as some of your other stuff which, while awesome, doesn't give us spriters much to work with.

you have no idea how much i love that. the detail in places makes me want to bite something. i love the use of white, and everything about his boots. is that a sash on the gun? also, on the crawling code, all i really got happening was him doing the worm, which wasnt as cool as it sounds. no luck from me.

...wow
Tis now my desktop background
I'm having trouble with some art, I'm trying to do a snake light infantary/scout but I can't think of the details as your pictures of the normal soldiers didn't have that much body detail, all I really need is an armour concept drawing, I can't think what decorations they would put on there armour. All of my atemps so far really suck.

Re: The Crow, The Bear and the Serpent... RECALLED TO LIFE!!
more demonstrative color paintings, you say? Crow wearing helmet Crow not wearing helmet That should help with the spriting of the helmet, the head and the spatial relationship between the two. EDIT: this got me thinking: why don't i paint more often? I left off the feathers because they would have detracted from the composition, because they are hard to paint, because you guys already know where the feathers go, etc. I like it better without. i might do an edit with feathers later, but i'm a little sick of switching back and forth between brushes over and over and over again at the moment. I recorded the painting from start to almost-finish, and as soon as i get vimeo to start working for me as opposed to against me then i'll upload the whole process of the thing. It may or may not be fun to watch. cheers.

Wow, nice paintings.
And these ones really capture the fact that these guys are tribal but not cave men, they have technology.

Re: The Crow, The Bear and the Serpent... RECALLED TO LIFE!!
Behold, designs for a crow mech, with scale infantry and descriptions of features! Photobucket wouldn't let me upload, so, to concerned parties: sorry i had to host it on the site. EDIT: played Geti's new walkpaths and i'm very impressed with the way it moves. I agree that foot animations an re-done feet are a must at this point, then it's going to look great (aside from some shading issues that i'll deal with on my own.) Zombie cave is sort of where i've been testing everything, and they really look great in the cave, it's sort of the kind of environment i always imagined them to inhabit. Things to change: The long rifle's too inaccurate. It's meant to be a sniper's weapon and so it needs to be precise. The reload speeds, capacity and ROF are spot on, though. The carbine's ROF is too high and it's capacity is a little low. Other than that it's really deadly. I set up some coalition at different ranges and i'm really pleased with the way the slug throwers are working, how the farther away the target is the less damage it incurs. However, that range is too short and that damage too little. Keep in mind that these are going to have to compare to other, much stronger races with far tougher armor than the crow. The javelin is in much the same broken state as it was upon my first test of it. it doesn't need to fly across the map, that initial velocity seems to detonate it in the user's hands. Try toning it down a smidge. I haven't even seen what it can do because it won't deploy. Shotgun is pleasing. What's really going to make it scary is a unique muzzleflash. I might draw up some sketches of animation frames for that next. Fantastic job, it's the best build yet.

I thought of a way to fix the javelin, but it would make it a reusable weapon instead of a one-time grenade. You all right with that? Also, I'm pretty sure I designed the long rifle to be as accurate as possible while in sharp aim, but terrible when shot from the hip. Is that still too far from what you wanted?

There isn't much of a problem with the javelin its just that the Crow actor is too big, i tested it with a dummy and it threw it just fine, the only problem is that the Crow is too big so when the javelin is thrown at half to full power then it either slices the Crow's arm off or just explodes in its face. I do realize that the size of the Crow actor is how Allen wanted it to be (and im pretty sure you can fix the issue without changing the actors size).

Hmm, i tested it in zombie cave and it wasn't overly accurate for me. I only tested it with the crow actor though, maybe it's due to how generally unsteady they are. I'll test with an actor that's not in beta, maybe i'll get a different result. Javelin being more than single use is fine, but we'll need to add a quiver of them on the back in the sprite for that to look realistic. As a side-note i should reiterate how much better the crow looks now that he walks properly. I think i need to beef him up just a little and make him look less delicate, and also re-design the head-spite a little. Exalion's is good, but there are ways in which it can be improved. The mech's size can be messed with, i'm thinking it'll be the biggest actor in the pack (but not necessarily the most deadly), and i'm working on some other large mech-units right now. Glad it's worthy though. Serpents are going to rely mainly on mechs for any sort of battlefield presence, so i'll bear in mind the resolution constraints when mocking those up. I still need to settle on a design for their infantry, i'm not feeling the ones that are already posted. Also, i've been thinking about a scene. A Lua scene for a demonstration to be included in the first official release of this (a day that we're rapidly approaching if we keep working at this pace). Any ideas?

Re: The Crow, The Bear and the Serpent... RECALLED TO LIFE!!
well if we get bear infantry and weapons done we could do a scene much like the one you posted in one of the wh40k threads, where there are 2 enemy fronts attacking a ruined church. do any of these guys have a religious building we could maim for a scene? i can see it being either bears in camps in the woods (enemy drop zone) laying siege to a crow temple, or crows dropping onto the top of mountains full of caves see picture, red is bear spawn, green is crow spawn, dark grey is infrastructure, the background grey is used for crow caves. apologies for the shitty quality, no tablet on the laptop >< in C, the ugly circles on sticks are severed heads on stakes attached to the walls surrounding the bear camp.
