It isn't a big deal at all. You could have left it the same.
The big deal starts when people start claiming stuff is made by themselves when it is obviously not. Or not entirely.
At least be honest about it.

If someone "borrows" one of your faces, makes some changes and publish them as their own is not a great deal. I mean, they are probably doing it cause they don't have your spriting skills and need a good base. Heck, I'd do that if I had to (and it's worse, I've done it in a never-released mod in which every actor were almost-not resprited coalition lights).

Anyway, that won't make you lose prestige or anything at all, and other people will probably frown at him when they realise it. In fact, you are helping him on not getting ashamed in front of the entire community.

Still, giving or not credit, being or not honest, things are always known in the end and sooner or later someone will find out.

It's a matter of time.

That said, no one else is allowed to discuss about copyrights and ownerships and the like.

Many of modders, admitted publicly that our mods are complete frankestein's monsters, starting by me.
Let's remember this is just a request, not a public mod pre-release, so let's switch down our torches
before seeing the credit section.

Okay seriously, I don't understand the big deal. If I was uploading a mod, or maybe uploading anything, then yes I know the rules of forums of giving credit to the makers if I were to ever use them. Thus I'm not making a mod for publicity unless someone actually asks for it as well, I simply wanted a character based off my taste I could use myself.

Now if someone were to ask to have it as well, then yes, I would have made another thread in Mod Releases and credited the parts of the mod in which I have borrowed. But this was just a little side project I wanted to work on and I just so happened to use some parts of other mods and characters to give me this idea and so I wanted it done because as a fellow modder from Soldat and King Arthurs Gold, I know enough about modding and spriting and doing my own work, just not for Cortex and I'm experimenting and I didn't think it was a big deal that I posted a picture of the character I said that it was an 'EXAMPLE' of what I wanted it to look like.

I'm not being rude or disrespectful, I know when I start modding for Cortex that if someone were to post a mod they did and said my work was theirs, I would too get pissed off. But I did no such thing of posting any mods for the public to use so I felt no need to give credit unless someone wanted the mod and I would have made sure those were credited.

I'm not ashamed, i've done nothing wrong but ask for a simple request for my own personal use, I know who the creditors are, I never said I was taking anyone's work, and even to prove it, i went and changed the head myself.

I am not worried about 'prestige', 'credit' or whatnot. I don't care about that and I never did.
What I do care about, and it's something I am confronted with a lot lately, is that modders rip stuff from other modders' stuff without asking. This is an uncourteous trend that I really don't like seeing. I don't know if other mods suffer from this, but lately UniTec seems to be an all you can grab for free buffet. And that's certainly not why I made the mod.

Yes, this particular thing is not a big deal at all, it's just a combination of some pixels, shaped into a tiny face, but it's something that I feel has to be said regardless. Today it's a small pixel face. Tomorrow it's someone's car, jewelry box and bank account.

Edit: Davyjones, you specifically said you made the 'head' sprite while you did not. Not entirely anyway. That was rude, and that's what annoyed me. I wouldn't even have said something if you didn't mention this.

Anyway, enough about this crap. Someone make the actor already.

Okay, but what the downloader does with the mod after it is downloaded is their business outside of the fact if they steal it for their own then yes its a problem. I had no intention of taking your head or anyone else's part of this project and making it my own.

All I did was say, "Oh I like this, and this, and this....Hmmm, I wonder if I could just combine these random sprites and see what kind of character I can make"
I never had the thought in my mind that I liked what I saw and I was going to claim it for my own. I simply liked the sprites and wanted to kinda compile them into my own personal taste of character and I wanted someone to help me do it.
