Grif wrote: It's completely changing how CC is actually played; thus, a total conversion. Meh... Then i'm really outdated. Back in the days a 'total conversion' was taking all the vanilla ♥♥♥♥ (Hurr 5 weapons, 4 tools, 1 shield (In the later builds), 1 grenade, 4 actors and 2 crafts) and replacing all that ♥♥♥♥ with your own stuff. Well, goot luck for anyone crazy enough to try a and make (Decent) TOTAL total conversion (Mst likely by themself and themself only) in just over 2 weeks. Well... Unless whoever is going to try is unemployed and has too much free time. If anyone needs spriting done, I can help with most stuff (Except effects (Fireballs, etc.), actors (If even present) and gibs (This is really weird... I can put thing together from them... But I can't actually make them >__________>')), unless its something uber complicated that would require WAAAAAAY too much work.

Re: Total Conversion Contest
how are we supposed to make a total conversion without editing base.rte? firstly you need to be able to run a global script that runs automatically on any level not just one campaign mission, which can't be done without editing base.rte... can we give instructions to rename the original base.rte and supplement it with our own base.rte?
...I have some plans.

Likewise, if you think two and a half weeks is too long... Well, people would grumble you, but suggest a time too. I'm really not sure... If one person does everything (Coding, Lua, Sprting, Sounds, Testing and whatnot) + if he has work or other time/strength/motivation consuming activities it would take atleast a month to pull off something good. If a person does nothing except eating, sleeping and CC then it shouldn't take more then 2~3 weeks, even if working alone. But how many people like this are there? I don't know who is working on Xex besides Grif (Obviously) and LFoW (If he still does), but it seems to be in the making for quite some time now, its definitely over a month judging by the first 'leaked' (lol) screens that were posted on the 15th of July (If there weren't any earlier), plus, it was probably a week or so (Maybe more) to actually get it to a state where you can get a screen. So that's way over a month (With 2 people working on it). And guess what, it still isn't finished. If I would make one of these myself, my entry would be ready in half a year or so (If I wouldn't give up after 3~4 weeks). >_________________>' So think about it. Oh, forgot to mention, I can provide sound effects aswell.

That's nowhere in the rules. I mean, seriously, nowhere. Did you not just notice Duh pointing out what a total conversion means? Just make it a damn campaign mission, that's not the focus of the contest. Also, 2 weeks should be enough time to get a rudimentary build of something entirely new out. Hell, if I'm allowed to "borrow" xextredge code I could probably have something playable in a few days.

Re: Total Conversion Contest
You can get others to help with sprites and sounds. Make a team if you like, the only limitation is that there can be only one coder.

Re: Total Conversion Contest
I'm tempted to become a part of this. I have an idea.
When are we starting? Sadly, I won't be settled into my new apartment until the middle of next month, and I don't feel 100% comfortable trying to mod hardcore from just my laptop.

Re: Total Conversion Contest
Total conversion? OH YEAH. Time to get all those wacky CC ideas out of the wardrobe. Count me in, just lemme get my chainsaw. And two and a half weeks is perfect, long enough for you to make good stuff but short enough for you to feel the pressure. Let the onslaught begin!

At first I thought this was a good idea, and that I would join, but then I read this. Duh102 wrote: lafe wrote: This is can we use a template as a place to start?
edit: this is the contest me and grif accepted to do, correct? Yes, this is the contest between you two, but Grif and I opened it up to anyone. You and he are mandatory participants, unless you want to forfeit, everybody else is optional. Wow, Internet Pissing contest between 2 people, nothing else matters. that alone, makes me rage, It went from fun to personal vendetta, that drags everyone else down with it. once again, something great has been absolutely ruined, and grif's e-penis is responsible. Keep your personal Vendetta's Out of the modding contests, I hope you both loose to one of the 'everybody else is optional' entries.

Maxim, I know you gave me two dates of how long it could take, but not how long you suggest I should bump it to. Miles_T3hR4t wrote: It went from fun to personal vendetta, that drags everyone else down with it. I don't know why you're raging. A lot of cool things have come from personal vendettas, like space travel and the internet itself. Cold war, look it up.

Keep your personal vendetta out of the modding contest. This contest only exists because of a mild argument Lafe and I had. I asked duh to start the thread because it actually seemed like an interesting idea. original source of the challenge: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16233&start=30Quoth my PM to Duh, asking him to make this into an "official" contest: Quote: Hey, you've got semi-authority as mod contest organizer, wanna start a competition topic? Quote: Ok. Open to just you and lafe, or to everybody in general? Quote: could go either way, really. The original "contest" is between myself and lafe, but I think there's a few other lua coders who might whip something up.
Might as well make it public, who knows who might join.

Re: Total Conversion Contest
I'm looking forward to what results from this contest, even if it's just Grif and lafe. Miles, they made this contest BECAUSE of their personal 'vendettas'. I don't see what's wrong with it at all seeing as it's promoting the production of more mods.

You have to make an entire game. i ment, can you take, say, the rocket template, if you need a rocket class object in your game?

Re: Total Conversion Contest
So now that I've seen the actual origin of this steaming pile of pointlessness, I'd just like to say that it didn't need to include everyone, nor did it need to be its own thread. I walk away for a day or so and come back to this? really? so we have Grif, the internet hate machine, and Lafe, someone who's only crime is making bullet-rape mods with bad spelling, and grif has to jump on him and try to beat him down.
This is a school bully beating up the kid that noone likes, and the teachers (in this case the moderators) are just letting it happen, and placing bets. now I already can tell that this thread won't get locked because the moderators are just watching and laughing, so here's one thing that needs to be pointed out.
Remember the base rules of ALL the moding contests. it can't be anything you've already made, which means that total conversion that grif has already been working on Is invalid for this contest.
Also @ grif, I checked this thread first because its a contest, then started checking all the threads i've posted in. Reading your reply, this isn't my personal vendetta, this is be being appalled that you really think it necessary to prove that your better than someone who you routinely beat on, and that noone is doing a damn thing.
This is not because it's you, but the fact that it IS you, adds to it. I AM keeping my vendettas out of it, because I'm not entering.
