Post Sprite Issues (SOLVED)
I'm having trouble with getting a few sprites I made to work. They're edits of Abdul's Gunships for personal use. I pulled up the originals in GIMP, got the color map from the image, and preformed my edits (mostly with the dropper and pencil tools). When I tried to save my edits, however, GIMP wouldn't let me save them as bitmaps. Stumped, I poked around the menus, before finding an "overwrite (filename. In this case, "GunshipHull003.bmp")" option. So I did that, and it seemed to work. Checking the images afterwards, I saw that they were indeed bitmaps file types. But when I tried to run Cortex Command, it spat out an error saying that it couldn't find the images I had just edited. Replacing the edits with the original images fixed the issue, but I'd really like to use my edits. Any help?

Yeah, it's a 'problem' with version 2.8. If you can, downgrade to ~2.6. I don't have any links on hand, unfortunately.

That's GIMP he's talking about there, by the way.

Sabotaged by my software I see. Thanks for the tip. Will my files work in 2.6? Or will I have to redo everything?

I'd recommend not spriting in GIMP. Try GraphicsGale, it's free, it's amazing, and it's much much more convenient.

Miggles, you are clearly misinformed
GIMP is by far the best choice for spriting

You should be able to open the edited version (from 2.8, that is) in 2.6, then simply resave it as a CC-compatible BMP using 2.6. Worked for the mags and shells I made for something anyhow.

2.6 is fine though. I honestly have no clue what they did to break it in 2.8, probably something to do with the change to saving to .xcf and forcing you to use the 'export' menu options to save as other formats. :???:

Personally, I prefer Paint.NET for spriting.
