Some Stuff I'd Like to Know.
Alright, there's a few things I wanted to know about modding Cortex Command. I've been browsing around the forums, reading topics about questions others had, usually some of them relating to information I also wanted to know. Firstly, I'd like to ask if there's a limit to the colors you can use in CC, since I've noticed posts mentioning something about a palette a few times before, and secondly, is sharing an account with someone else okay? My friend and I were planning to start learning how to mod CC together, so we made this account. (Note that if it is okay to share accounts, we planned on distinguishing who is who basically by signing our alias at the end of each post.)
Thank you in advance.

Yes, there is a palette, you can view it in the folder base.rte, should be named something like palette.bmp. Not only do you need to use those colors, but you need to make your image into a format called a "paletted bitmap". There are several tutorials around, including mine for use in Gimp. Sharing an account is fine, but why not have two accounts? Forum accounts are free, you do not need a cortex command key to sign up for one.

Re: Some Stuff I'd Like to Know.
By the way, if you think The Palette is a hindrance, don't! I actually found that my pixel art without the palette was terrible.... It turns out that limiting the colors you use in pixel art does wonders.
I'm actually going to make an in-depth tutorial on how to make sprites (Cortex Command pictures) in The Palette tomorrow. I will be using Photoshop CS5, but I believe most older versions will work. I've taken all the screenshots, I just haven't made a thread...
By the way, does anyone have a .act palette file for the terrain palette? I forgot how to make .act palettes off already paletted images, and I need the .act for terrain. I have the one for the standard palette though; I'll be offering it to people in my spriting tutorial. If I can get my hands on a copy of the terrain palette, I might start making missions again or make a tutorial on missions...
