Why do you guys frown upon edited vanilla factions?, some people can make some pretty good ones. I just want to know.

Re: Quick Question
We do?
Honestly I encourage that for new modders, it helps them learn.
EDIT: Well maybe Releasing them into this community and you might get a snarky response from one of us.

Re: Quick Question
I like it when people improve on what we have. I don't like it when it also wants me to overwrite vanilla, unless it happens to be a complete overhaul. I think the vanilla itself should be left alone, but can be expanded through other .rte folders.

Re: Quick Question
It's if they are barely edited, not if there's actually a whole lot of effort in em.

Re: Quick Question
If you create an entire faction based completely in vanilla, people won't like it too much because it will seem like you didn't do anything too complex. Unless you really make something epic. Anyway, people won't frown upon anyone because it's in fact a faction and someone put effort in it. Now, if you did it and it IS the vanilla faction, people won't like that. Vanilla is the base that everyone has, and no one wants a non-official one. But, if you create a complete overhaul of the game (like CC Brutality Mod), people will look at it with respect, it's a pretty big work.
It all depends on what you did.

Re: Quick Question
I don't think people look down on overhauling vanilla inasmuch as they frown on having to replace their own content with them.
I made a pack of weapons, a long while back, that was nothing special in any way, whatsoever. It was literally just a pack of guns that shot bullets, but I put time and effort into balancing them, giving them all unique roles, etc, and apparently people ♥♥♥♥ loved it (or so I'm told).
People loved them enough, apparently, that [at least] one person replaced the vanilla guns with them. That's ♥♥♥♥ awesome, for me, and I think that the best thing you could do, as a modder, though it would be difficult to maintain, would be to offer two separate downloads: One is our entire pack of content as a separate .rte, such that it can be used as an ordinary mod. The second download, though, is specifically setup to overwrite original content. Give people the option to do so, without the headaches, but don't force them to.
