Post Newb Can't Load Mod
Hello, everyone. I was following the beginner's tutorial to modding here (http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-crowguard ... dification) and was doing fine until the first time I tried to use the weapon in-game. Cortex Command loaded fine, but the weapon didn't appear in the buy screen or in the spawn menu from a skirmish game. Not to panic, I searched for reasons why this would happen. I heard that zip files wouldn't load right sometimes, so I copied the entire mod into an identical folder. No results. Searches for people with similar problems yielded no solution. The mod is simply a single weapon, like in the tutorial. All the paths are correct in the .ini files, and there is no reason I can find this should be happening. Does anyone know of any other reason this would happen?

You probably forgot to index it.

Whether the image is indexed or not doesn't stop it from loading, just makes it look retarded in-game. Maybe attach the mod so the better people on here could have a look?

I meant index the ini not the image. As in put it in the index.ini file, or maybe you forgot to add .rte to your folder's name, anyway if you post the mod we could see what's wrong.

Post Re: Newb Can't Load Mod
You know, I've had a horribly interesting problem of my own, which can be related. After doing some tweakage on a mod I was making, the whole thing suddenly and very abruptly refused to load. Not "refused to load" as in "threw an error", it just made CC act as if the whole thing wasn't there! The index and all inis were fine (in fact I rechecked by including the main ini into a vanilla index, with similar results), and the only reason I found what went wrong was because I was fairly sure that the changes I made since the thing last worked were limited to a single weapon definition.

So, I looked through the file, and didn't see anything terribly wrong. Just in case, I reset everything I remembered back the way it was, to no avail. And then, after looking again, I saw a peculiar thing that I didn't pay attention to at first. One of the parameters I was specifying (IIRC it was a secondary parameter in a gib definition) was mis-tabbed, indented one level more than it should have been in relation to the parameters around it. Once I fixed that (seemingly normal) error, the mod started working again. I'm not sure if I can replicate it, but I'll try now and post here if it happens again.

Wrong indents can cause this kind of problem too.

I don't think CC loads zip folders. Put it in a regular .rte folder.

What I meant by that was I heard that there were problems loading unzipped folders. If you download X mod as a zip file and unzip it, you have to do some fiddling about to get it to load, I have heard.

I'm downloading and installing WinRAR as we speak, and will upload the mod in one second. It is nothing but a simple weapon; as I said, I am just learning to mod. Thanks for the quick responses, everyone; browsing the forums, I got the impression that it was very anti-newcomer around here. It's good to know that isn't true.

EDIT:
Here we are.

Your weapon was commented out in the index.ini : when you write //, the game won't read the rest of the line, that's what is called a comment,
here it should work:

FirstMod.rte.7z [12.64 KiB]

However your weapon has so much recoil that it kills anyone using it.
