First Poster, Spriter, Need Critique/Flames
I'm new to CC's forums, been playing with it awhile and made my own scenes and whatnot, but I was really interested in trying to do some spriting. This is my first I've ever tried for CC. I've based right off of a favorite concept picture of a random robot by the only Niklas Jansson. Concept Picture: WIP: This is only the first half, and I'm still rather noobish at this, but I wanted to get some feedback on what I got to be sure if it's worth pursuing. Also, even if I did get a sprite for this done, I wouldn't know the first thing about piecing it together as an actor. Any thoughts?

Pretty good sprite you've got there, but spriting it fully assembled is a waste of time for modding this game, because you'll later have to separate the parts to get it to work. Sprite the parts (Head, Body, Hands, Feet, Jetpack, Armor attachments) individually. Sprite the limbs (Arms, Legs) in frames of extension. Look in base.rte/actors/coalition to see an example.
Also your outlines are a bit too heavy, and you should use some more varied/noisey shades. For it to be fitting to the game's sprite style, anyway.
And if you wanted someone else to mod this into the game for you; this should have gone in the requests section.

Oh, I just put up a compilation of what I've got done so far, which is an arm in one frame of extension, the head, and the torso. I know they need to be separate at least, I actually got the coalition temp from your thread! I'll see what I can do about the outlining and the colors. I just wanted to keep the actor mostly black, but I'll try not to be too harsh on the outlines. And about the request, it was more a request for knowledge on making the sprite into an actor. This one was based/edited off the standard dummy, but I imagine some coding/scripting will be needed for putting it together, which is the part I have the biggest struggle with. I've perused around the forums for awhile now as a guest, and I think I'm looking in the right places, but just not quite getting it. Regardless, won't matter until I got a full sprite to work with! I'll keep at it.

Ah, alright then. Glad the templates could be of use to you.
But really if you've got no idea what you're doing, a device would be a better starting point than an actor. It makes for an easier learning curve, it's simpler and more fun. Trust me, re-articulating an AHuman to fit a set of sprites is a long, arduous task, especially so for someone that hasn't done anything else in CC modding first.
So what I suggest what you do is download the gun template, and just look around in the .ini files inside the .rte folder. .ini files can be opened with simple word processing programs, I recommend notepad, which you probably already have installed and easily accessible on your computer.
Anyways, look through the variables, (variable = value) try guessing what they do, and change their values, so you can see if you were right about what they do. Before long you'll know some basics that are applicable to all of CC modding.
By the way, for anything that's a yes/no true/false variable, 1 is yes/true and 0 is no/false. Just saying this so you can mess around with some numbers and know why the mod won't load after you changed it.

Re: First Poster, Spriter, Need Critique/Flames
Thanks for the tips. I'm aware of the power of notepad, the universal translator, and the 0/1 thing, those are super basic! I should probably specify that I'm a super noob only when it comes to 2d spriting and most programming. I'm a 3d modeler at heart and could probably make an easier 3d actor LOL. Not that CC would need anything 3d, it's lovely in its own right.
I figured actors would be difficult, since I see a majority of mods being guns and whatnot, but I really liked the look of this one robot specifically. I re-did the head, torso, and did an arm in 5 extensions, and they look better than before. It looks a little weird though since the body of this robot is so small.
I'll screw around with some guns and poke around a bit and put this guy on a little backburner until I'm not so...lost.
